Question: How does the writing process differentiate between writing Land of Stories and Struck By Lightning?

Answer: Oh it’s strange. They’re both beasts, let me tell ya. It’s funny cause, I wrote Struck By Lightning first and then I wrote Land of Stories so sometimes I’d be writing Land Of Stories and I’m like ‘wait, that’s script writing!’ It’s an action and a character line. Like, I gotta add some stuff! But it’s very different. In a screen play luckily you get to have people to add to your vision and you get the visuals and stuff so you get to be less descriptive. When it comes to novel you are everything. Your voice is everything, it’s the only thing that the reader gets to see.

I really enjoy the fact that in the movie I could use bad words. That was a great element, because there is so much bad language in high school. It was great to actually use the real language instead of having them say “This is bull.” We can say, “This is bullsh*t,” the way it’s really supposed to be said.
